The startup Web3, publisher of the fantasy sports platform NFT Ultimate Champions, announces the launch of its basketball fantasy game through a partnership with the EuroLeague.
The pace is quickening: following the February 17 announcement of its second fundraising round of €4.7 million led by Sisu Game Ventures, Unagi is launching the basketball version of its game Ultimate Champions.
Launched around football less than a year ago (April 2022), Ultimate Champions is a fantasy sports game that allows users to create and manage their own sports teams based on real players from partner clubs. Games are synched with the schedules of real sports events and users earn rewards based on virtual scores achieved by real-life players. With high adoption rates and a user base that has surpassed 200,000 in just a few months, Ultimate Champions is a growing success.
A free, Web3 game dedicated to European basketball
The Turkish Airlines EuroLeague is the premier European basketball league. It organises 500 games each season as well as the 7Days EuroCup. This new partnership is a real opportunity for fans of the league’s clubs such as Barcelona, Olympiakos, Real Madrid, Monaco and Fenerbahçe who can now engage with their favourite players outside of the matches. The launch is also a milestone for the European league as it embraces blockchain and Web3 technology in its gamification strategy.
Roser Queralto, Chief Business Officer at Euroleague Basketball, says:
“We are honoured that Unagi has chosen Euroleague Basketball to extend its Ultimate Champions platform to new sports, basketball in particular. This is a unique fan engagement platform that we hope will grow exponentially through basketball and the EuroLeague. It’s a testament to our game strategy and the legacy of the EuroLeague Fantasy Challenge community.”
With this new game and Euroleague partnership, Unagi continues on its growth path to becoming Europe’s leading Web3 game publisher. A major step for the web3 fantasy sports game publisher.
Unagi co-founders Charlie Guillemot and Rémi Pellerin add:
“We are very happy with this partnership with the Euroleague. As long-time fans, we know the passion, energy and enthusiasm that the EuroLeague and EuroCup bring. We were impressed with their new business strategy – focused on youth, urban locations and new distribution channels – including the Web3 ecosystem. We believe the Ultimate Champions platform offers a new way for European basketball fans to engage with their teams and players. The EuroLeague is the anchor of our basketball strategy for product expansion. Let’s ball!”.
